9 Vegetables You Can Use in Your Handheld Spiralizer

A spiralizer is a fine way to reduce the carbs and calories in a meal. Noodles add hundreds of calories. If you enjoy having noodle dishes, replace those rice noodles with veggie noodles courtesy of a handheld spiralizer.

Make a salad. Make homemade fries. Mix them in with a stir fry or eat them raw. Here are vegetables you may not know you can use with a spiralizer.

Beets

Beets work well in a spiralizer because they do not need to be peeled and are a highly nutritious vegetable. Spiralized beets can be eaten raw in salads, sautéed, or roasted as the base for a noodle dish.

Turnips

Turnips are a very easy vegetable to spiralize. Trim those ends. If the outside looks a little dirty, peeling turnips before using them in a spiralizer isn’t a bad idea. They are best in a stir-fry but certainly will work raw in a salad or used as noodles.

Broccoli

Pack broccoli in with your tabletop spiralizer and see the nutrition that shakes out. Be sure to provide broccoli with the ends trimmed flat and with the outer layer peeled. Broccoli can be consumed raw or sautéed.

Carrots

Carrots are a favourite vegetable for a spiralizer. Any carrot will work though the bigger the vegetable, the better. You don’t have to peel these. Have the carrots raw, sautéed, roasted, or steamed.

Potatoes

Make curly fries at home with a spiralizer doing the hard work for you. A spiralizer creates even-thickness fries ready to be put into your oven for baking. Potatoes can obviously be prepared in several ways, from being deep-fried to sautéed or roasted.

Red Onions

Remove the outer peel of your red onion and trim off the top. With just a little pressure, you can spiralize an onion into perfect noodle-shaped pieces. They can be cut from there into smaller pieces or blended in with other spiralized vegetables to craft a salad.

Zucchini

Zucchini is a trendy vegetable for a spiralizer. It’s a very forgiving vegetable and can be used in various ways. No peeling necessary. Eat them raw or cooked, tossed in a stir-fry, or in a noodle bowl.
