How Do You Use Scented Reed Diffusers For Aromatherapy?

Scents for your home have become big business over the last decade or so. However, using essential oils and scents is nothing new. Aromatherapy has been in use for centuries and can evoke memories, bring elation and joy, or can cover up unwanted smells in your home. Reed diffusers are just one method of aromatherapy and are gaining popularity for use in home fragrance.

How Does It Work?

Reed diffusers are simply a glass container with several – usually eight – reeds that can be inserted into the container. The glass container is then filled with a carrier oil and fragrance oil. With reeds having many channels, they absorb the liquid and allow it to transfer up through the reed and then diffuse the scent into the air.

The fragrance is not a blast of scent but a gentle odour that adds scent gently to the room.

Is It Safe To Use?

A very simple way to infuse scent into your home, a reed diffuser requires absolutely no electricity. You don’t need to light it on fire and they don’t leave a residue behind when in use. Because a reed diffuser uses no power to work, it can be left alone to do its work.

There are no open flames to worry about, either. They can be placed anywhere in your home and you don’t need to worry about them.

Kids, Pets, and Allergies

As with any items in your home, keeping them away from kids’ curious hands and pets can be easily achieved by placing them in areas where they are not seen. Place an essential oil reed diffuser high in a room to avoid any spillage or the curiosity to eat.

Choose a scent to work with. There are many to choose from. Be aware of any allergies so as not to have reactions to the oils themselves.

It’s Not Working

As with any type of oil-based fragrance, there is a small need for maintenance. When you find that the scent isn’t as powerful as it was in the beginning, simply take the reeds and turn them upside down into the liquid.

This will help the reeds to absorb the liquid through the dry ends of the reeds producing the diffused scent once again.

Choosing Scents And Placement

Choices for scent combinations are endless. For bathrooms, you might want something crisp and fresh, and in the kitchen something vibrant to eliminate smells, while a bedroom perhaps something romantic is best.

Keep in mind, placing your diffuser near a window or vent will help spread the scent throughout the room. With care and attention, your reed diffuser of 250ml should keep a room scented for approximately 3 months. You can add the oil base and fragrance to a diffuser when it runs dry, and replace the reeds.
