Halloween wouldn’t be the same without the familiar feels, frights, and scares of our favourite Hollywood horror films. Friday the 13th
There’s a lot of chapters to the Friday the 13th saga which began in the 1970s. Depending on how many you want to watch, you may want to go with your favourite two or three to get a real sense of the franchise. Evil Dead
The Evil Dead series has a few excellent chapters from the 1980s highlighting where Hollywood horror went after some of the more experimental films of the decade prior. The Evil Dead series is over the top, fun, and the first two are absolute Halloween horror classics. Grab your favourite drink, saddle in with a blanket and some friends, and turn off all the lights. Evil Dead is a wonderful watch!
Halloween
The Halloween film series is a timely selection for not only watching on Halloween but there’s actually a new chapter coming out this year in the Halloween saga. If you’re looking to get out and see it in the near future, this can be a fun exercise in getting caught up with where things are at in the series. Similar to Friday the 13th, not every Halloween film is a stone cold classic however there are many horrific moments that any Hollywood horror fan can appreciate.
The Conjuring
The Conjuring is one of the best contemporary Hollywood horror film series going. The Conjuring, Insidious, Ouija, and Paranormal Activity can each be held up as examples of contemporary horror influence. For fans of the genre who may not know where to start with modern day Halloween horror, we recommend The Conjuring’s first two films as an immediate go-to.
